Welcome. This is an unofficial blog for Beaconsfield squash club.
Here you'll be able to access info about team matches, keep tabs on divisional positions,
and get updates on squash and racketball events and any forthcoming social activity.
It could also be the place to start (and end) rumours, and indulge in healthy banter.
There's bound to be the odd thing that offends; but that's alright isn't it, us being adults?
If you're truly miffed just email me and I'll remove the offending article.
You'll also be able to post a blog yourself; I am your host so, simply email me your piece/rant/match report/poetry/recipe for tripe to:
trev@lisacottage.demon.co.uk
I'll put it up 'in the cloud' and folk will then be able to comment or heckle...
So come on, email your pieces or add your comments below what is already posted there.

Stretcher Race

I hope that there will be some stories from yesterday's stretcher race.
Please send them to me here along with photos etc for publication.
Meanwhile, I turned up late afternoon at the club to find this lot rolling around on the carpet with Chris.

James Seen Off in Style

Yesterday was a cracking day at the club; a worthy send off for young Jimbo Wyatt.
Tim Garner won many friends with his tireless stint on court; nearly 3 hours by my reckoning where he took on James, Andy Longman (Club Coach), Tom Phipps (County Champion), Charlie Wyatt (James's big brotherPaul Boyle (Club no.1) and finally some spunky new member named 'Guy' who bounced off the walls and played more boasts than Stan; occasionally to great effect. Paul Boyle was particularly impressive in his movement and shot selection, more than holding his own.
After the squash a few of us let our hair down; particularly Atko (who seemed intent on helping clean the IPA pump and line) ending the evening sporting Liz Monson's extensions.
The table tennis on court one was a big success with the kids early on, then later, with some punchy old tossers keen to relive their glory days. A future table tennis ladder/league would be a great idea; maybe closing off court one on club night, although we'd have to make Coops play one eyed/left handed; he's good, he is.
The evening was great up until the point where Chapps dumped me in a rosebush, proceeded to dish out Chinese burns then started kissing everyone.
The ladies loved hanging out on the swing in the garden (see below) although I guess we'll lose that when the Lodge is let.
Meanwhile, bon voyage James, Charlie and Mark; don't become strangers...

Mo Farah's Inspiration

As a top flight athlete I'm always interested in sporting psychology.
Intrigued by Mo Farah's recent Olympic heroics I'm a little disappointed to discover that his outstanding pace is nowt to do with mental and physical preparation. Seems that our Mo has an active imagination and is also a cowardly custard; sh*t scared of everything from his own shadow to a Telly Tubby.
To witness a new world record simply sneak up behind him and whisper "Boo!" The boy has history...

The World is Flat: Part 3: Scary Willy

This just in from WKP; now I'm starting to worry...

Just in case you think my cabin might be an OK place to stay…..

Summer Clearance Sale

Following the recent success in shifting my old library and the communal 'help yourself' of the club's old cracked mugs (tall and straight, large dimpled, some without a handle and/or half pints) the club is happy to announce that, after the recent spring cleaning of the club cottage we have retrieved one or two desirable objects of interest.
Everything must go; sold as seen...
Who'd have thought that you could keep so much tat 'n' fluff in one tiny attic?

Chris Griffiths Announces Her Sad Departure

A Message from our mortified Chairman:

Dear fellow members,

It is with deep regret that I have to advise, that I have today received notice from Chris Griffiths to end her 13 years of employment at the Club.

I have had the absolute pleasure to have worked closely with Chris over the last 8 months. Her dedication to the Club has been absolute and her positive attitude and smile will be hard to replace and her welcoming character will be missed by us all.

For those that may not know, Chris has MS and leaving work now will hopefully give her the opportunity to relax more. That said, she has offered to help out when required, so if you see her behind the bar or in the office, please feel free to buy her a gin and tonic.

We would like to give her a great send off, so please keep Friday 12th October free in your diary for her farewell drinks at the Club.

I am confident that I speak on behalf of us all, in wishing Chris all the best.

There is a card and collection behind the bar for those wishing to contribute.

Stretcher Race

This just in from Ian Piggin:

The Beaconsfield Stretcher/Beer Race is on Bank Holiday Monday August 27.
Our Squash Club has entered 2 teams, one for non team players and one for team players.
I volunteered early.
Always a mistake...
I need another 3 folk to carry/run/drink, plus a child (or small person; Mears?), to be carried.
I understand that Toby Johnson has volunteered, presumably to run/carry/drink beer and, hopefully, not to be carried.
I do realize that this might impact upon collective willingness to take on this task, but have no fear, he is a new (half) man; in his now svelte state usual jokes about his arse having its own post code do not now apply.  In fact, in light of his laudable re-imaging Toby has now been officially designated  'half arsed'.
All volunteers are welcome and I encourage suggestions for the person being carried.

The World is Flat: Part 2

Nothing much to add other than there is now some jostling to decide who I share a cabin with.
WKP's already started dressing me up as a 'pretty princess'; all a bit worrying.
Should I be buggered?
Stay tuned for updates...

Sporting Terms: 'Following Through'

Following up on the 'Bottle' blog of a few days ago; we need to talk about another sporting platitude.
I always related the term 'Following Through' to flatulence but it seems that it resonates in sporting parlance. Apparently it's something to do with that grey area beyond the moment of commitment and just before the moment of completion...
Looking at these character studies I think that my 1st impression was correct; I mean, you really need to be careful in pushing too hard whilst diving in Speedos and who could soil themselves whilst shouting 'checkmate'?
